West Virginia University's 3+3 Program is an opportunity for qualified undergraduate students to earn their bachelor's degree and law degree in six years instead of seven years. 

Once accepted into the 3+3 Program, you will begin taking WVU Law classes in what would be your senior year. 


The program is open to students at WVU's Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, Reed College of Media, and the John Chamber College of Business and Economics. See the list of majors at the bottom of this page. 

To qualify for the program, you must: 

  1. Declare their major by the fall semester of their Sophomore year.

  2. Complete a minimum of 90 credits in their baccalaureate (undergraduate) program by the end of their Junior year (including required general education and major courses).

  3. Have earned at least a 3.4 cumulative GPA through five full-time semesters.

  4. Take the LSAT in October of their Junior year (retake in December if necessary)

  5. Apply to WVU Law by January 15 of their Junior year. An application decision will be made by April 1.

  6. Pay both WVU Law and University tuition and fees beginning the fall semester of your 1L year (your fourth year of study).

  7. Talk to your adviser about loans or available WVU Law scholarships (as the Promise and other undergraduate awards would no longer be applicable).


  8. Pass a character and fitness review (mandated by the Bar).

WVU Law will advise students on preparing for the LSAT and completing their law school application.

Students with an LSAT score of 158 or higher and undergraduate GPA of 3.7 or higher will be presumptively admitted to the WVU College of Law. 

Students who do not meet the 158/3.7 threshold will have their applications considered alongside those from the general applicant pool.

To remain in the 3+3 Program, students must earn a C or better in first-year law courses and a cumulative GPA of 2.3 or higher.

Students who are dismissed from the 3+3 Program (e.g. for poor grades), or who choose to withdraw, during the first calendar year of law coursework, may apply all or some of their successfully completed law coursework toward their bachelor's degree.
